Event Highlights
AI-GeneratedPeter Holz claimed the 2026 Chicago Yacht Club Fall Match Race, closing out the regatta with a 3–0 sweep of BYC (Ben Quincy) in the final. CYC's Holz never gave the fleet a foothold on the way there, sharing the top of the double round robin with Quincy at 7–1 before dispatching OYS (Jack Riley) 3–0 in the semifinals. Quincy matched that path with a 3–0 win over CYC's Richard Rychlik Jr, but found no answer in the title series. Rychlik took third, edging Riley 2–1 in a petit final that was the closest series of the weekend. Behind them, ColYC (Coleman Robbins) finished the round robin at 0–8. A 3-knot westerly gusting to 13 held steady across the flights over 0.6 ft seas at 79°F, denying either side of the course a lasting tactical edge and leaving the racing to be settled boat on boat.

About This Event
The Chicago Yacht Club Fall Match Race is sailed out of Belmont Harbor on Lake Michigan, where eight invited skippers race the club's Tom 28 MAX fleet for two titles at once. The overall winner is inscribed on the Sterling Morton Trophy, given in 1937 for interclub Star Class racing and revived in 2018 after three decades in storage. The top eligible skipper and crew take the Richardson Trophy and the title of YRUGL Great Lakes Match Racing Champions, a sterling silver Tiffany cup donated by Commodore S. O. Richardson, Jr. of the Toledo Yacht Club and first raced in Chicago in 1912. Tradition says the cup gets filled with Stingers and nobody leaves until it is empty.
